But as B and H class fares are semi-flexible why was the replacement ticket put into the M bucket anyway? Should it not have remained a H-fare?

Genuine question. I've never had to change a B/H fare so am not totally sure how it works. If you only get one change then putting it into M makes sense; if not, I would question what has occurred.
