Interesting, I didn't know that. In this case there was already law enforcement (airport security) on site, so I don't think it would have made a difference, but good to know, although I guess that it must have to be used with care, and as a last resort.

3. Always stay in their sights, refuse to leave the area until proper resolution.
4. and always refuse to be part of "passing the ball" routine. Make the staff accountable.
5. They are trained to dismiss and bs you. Your Instinct should always stay firm and do not let them dismiss you.

You should have asked to be rebooked on another carrier on biz at the origin (jakarta) and not at the transit station. At Sin Transit: it can be argued that you already accepted the boarding in y already! Tk is in their right to downgrade any passengers, but tk have to offer you solutions or compensations, regardless if the tickets are full fare or reward. The irrops situation would be harder to invoke as others point it out at the sin station.

If you had been rebooked on a full fare biz on another carrier, you would have been able to also collect miles!

My recent encounter with similar bs:

1. Agreed, although I did more or less everything that is suggested there, short of refusing to board. global_happy_traveller's advice to call Aeroplan first is a must in any case, I would say, too.

2. Agreed, but again, I was at all times correct, and I only called the supervisor incompetent after she repeatedly refused to hear to any other options that I was proposing (rerouting, rescheduling, etc.) Concededly this may have been because Singapore was only a transit station and she could not actually do much, but it was not my fault, I offered the same options in Jakarta and they told us to talk with the Singapore supervisor in Singapore. If there is a next time I will know better, but it is definitely a handicap to deal with incompetent or dishonest staff, who give you inaccurate or false information.

3. Agreed, done.

4. Agreed, but again, see point 2, sometimes you do not know that the ball is being passed (sometimes the claim that it is other person's competence is true).

5. Agreed, but again, see points 2. and 4.

In any case I do not think any of this makes Turkish Airlines any less to blame for the incident, in my eyes they are still a shame of an airline, and I will never fly them again.

PS Thank you for sharing your story, and I am glad that in your case everything worked out well.
