I would not try to go on the earlier WP flight, as it is the commuter terminal and a pain to get to and you have to go through TSA again.

I have gone on earlier HA flights and they are often more than willing to do that if the after flights are heavily booked.

I find it best to ask a male gate agent working that flight toward the end of boarding if you can jump on this one and that tends to work well for me.

I do have status on HA, but they don't even check that when at the end of boarding, I believe and even when they make a change, they just use the old school writing on your BP with a green sharpie the new flt number and seat assignment.

Checked bags, if you have them, though, might not go early to out stations like LIH, but you can always pick up the car or even check in if you are at one of the resorts just minutes away and pick them up later.
