If he's a private pilot working for a family that owns 767s and 777s (rather than some private aviation management company or a large corporation), I suspect that he has an individual contract that might be negotiable. They probably just book the pilot hotel nights at standard rates, so as long as he pays with his own credit card there should be no issue.
