My whole point to this thread is not to see if he can get points for the room rate but more to gain status and get the amenity. Just in case he wants to go on vacation with the family, it would be nice for him to be a Plat and potentially see an upgrade or get suite night upgrades. He certainly does enough nights to make Plat easily and maybe Plat 50.

I think there's a statement in the SPG T&C about airline rates, but I don't recall whether this just applies to distressed passenger rates or crew rates too. My guess is both as they are deeply discounted large volume rates. Another issue is whether the pilot pays for the rooms himself versus having them direct billed or put onto a master bill. I suspect the official answer would be that the pilot isn't paying an eligible rate or isn't paying for the room himself with his own credit card, so that he shouldn't get any benefits other than points for the additional stuff (F&B primiarily) that goes onto his own bill, but I think there's a slight chance of YMMV.
