On Kulula I think that will only cost me 200 ZAR (if paid in advance) vs 500+ ZAR on BA (the local equivalent of 40 GBP).
On Comair domestics in Y, the extra bag charge is ZAR 350 and the heavy bag charge is ZAR 250.
On the document which I have, there is a suggestion that pre-purchase of extra bags at a discount on ba.com was on its way (as of November 2011), but I don't know whether that's yet been implemented.

Yes, there are definitely priority check-in queues at JNB and DUR. Depending on how busy the economy queues are, their utility can vary between life-saver and irritating delay.
I can't remember Kulula's seat pre-allocation policy off the top of my head, but as an AA Gold = OW Ruby, I think you should get free seat pre-allocation on a BA flight from 7 days before the flight.
