Return flight cancelled, should BA open award availability?

I have an Avios booking for next year, LHR-JNB, JNB-MRU, MRU-LHR. The return flight from Mauritius has been cancelled and we have been re-booked on the morning flight the next day. The new flight gets me back home a day too late as I have work commitments. I don't really want to take the flight back from MRU a day earlier than booked as this would leave us with less than two full days in Mauritius.
I had no joy on the phone, just offered a full refund. I have emailed since but the reply said they can't help with this problem by email.
The problem is that I have already booked and paid for the first weeks accommodation in South Africa.
Is it unreasonable for me to expect BA to open award seats from JNB on the return date originally booked? I would be willing to forgo the 2nd part of the holiday and spend the time in South Africa instead.
The original booking was for 2 seats in First out and Club return.
Is it worth another phone call?
Thank you.
