We can use one of our no/low forex fee cards day-to-day when traveling abroad, and just pull out the chipped card for the rare situation like adding funds to our Oyster cards at a machine. We travel internationally all the time and the "need" for a chipped card has been minimal. It's just a convenience.
How about the chip & signature Bank of America card with no annual fee, no forex fee and rewards?

It appears you can use a mag strip card for Oyster machines.
