Note of caution is that the Convertible can pack a lot, especially with the use of packing cubes (I used 3 of them - L, M & S - to keep things organized & neat) and mine once weighted 35 lbs. My usual boarding weight of my wheeled TLS 21 is always 30+ and I travel with a Scottvest jacket/vest. There is also my personal item laptop bag.
Do not ask for assistance lifting the bag into the overhead or give impression that you are struggling; the attention will get your bag gate checked.
I have not have any sizer issue with it around Asia, North America, Central America and Europe. I fly only mainline and do not have any experience with LCC. YMMV
