I was able to get 100,000 "free" miles with the recent promo by showing 50k in spending on my AMEX Delta card.

My wife and I are now looking at taking a trip to Cancun. The 100K miles are worth $1,000. I tried to book the hotel portion through Capitol One's Tavelocity link but the room will be $2,300. It did not give me the choice to use miles and charge the rest on the card.

If I charge the room to the card can I have them give me a statement credit for the $1,000? Or, does the credit have to be enough to completely cover the charge? (Cannot apply to $2,300 charge but can apply to $1,000 charge).
