This was not a hotel built for the railway. The first hotel on this sight was opened in 1926 and operated by Newfoundland Hotel Facilities. Ownership of the hotel was transferred to CN after confederation in 1949. The hotel was renamed the Hotel Newfoundland in the 1960s, then taken over by Fairmont and now Starwood.
