I work nearby and we put visitors up in this hotel and have not heard any complaints. The attached Longhorn restaurant is pretty good; we eat there for lunch often enough.
The OP mentioned public transportation; while it is a distance from the Blue Line train to downtown, at the corner you can catch the PACE Bus route 221 to take you to the Blue Line or the route 250 to the Metra stations for trains into Chicago or out to various suburbs. (

If you are driving it is close enough to various access ramps of the nearby toll roads.
Another nearby (~1/4 mile) amenity is Lake Opeka with sailboats to rent, a 9-hole par-3 public golf course, sand volleyball courts and paths around the park. Very nice recreation area.
