My son-in-law is on USAir flight 12 from PHX-JFK. My daughter just called from NYC (where she is awaiting him) to say that the flight is now listed as "re-directed" and asking me to get more information. She's a Chairman's Preferred member, and she has called the line, who tells her that the flight hasn't even taken off yet.

But Flightaware.com shows that the plane DID take off and is now returning--quickly--to Phoenix. Any way to find out what's really happening? We're beginning to get a bit worried. Would really appreciate any help or advice.
