Thankfully NRT-SYD is operated with a slope bed on QF. It's sloped but the service and food even in PE was better that of SYD-NRT on JL. However, it could simply be the case of bad SYD catering and good NRT catering.

Service was definitely better on QF PE than JL J on this route though. By a mile. However, I suspect an exceptional QF crew member who made a huge difference because QF flights can have pretty mediocre to dreadful service as well.

I really wish BA operated LHR-SYD via NRT. Whatever I say about BA, it's pretty consistent and I haven't had a dreadful service.
