On a related note, the New York-Newark-Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA CSA at 11,842 square miles is dwarfed by the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Riverside, CA CSA at 33,954 square feet. As of the 2010 census, the populations of each were 22,085,649 and 17,877,006, respectively. The density of the NYC CSA is significantly higher than the SoCal CSA, but the Greater Los Angeles region dwarfs the NY one in pure land mass.
