At a guess there are probably now, what, half a dozen MAN-LHR connections you could make for one of the two SFO flights on some days of the week? Just because someone elects not to should mean nothing.
This is not the same as the little-known rule to provide a hotel on premium tickets with impossible connections which I recall a thread on where a BA staffer explained things once.
