It's been said here on FT many times but to repeat for emphasis: If pay with miles is used to cover even a tiny fraction of the cost of a ticket, the entire itinerary is treated as an award ticket. You will NOT receive ANY miles for the entire trip. Upgrade rules are the same as for award tickets, including no companion upgrades.
