You will have about zero chance of an upgrade. I have tried this route four times as an SE with tango plus fares. Zero upgrades. Last flight there were 14 other SE's ahead of me (J was altready full) all on latitude fares. Total waste of time.

Agree with your call on CX. I no longer use AC for any TPAC flights. You could also try EVA. They have business class for close to AC T+ fares. Could also try US departure.
