I think I know the answer but I tried searching in the forum and nothing came up, at least for the search terms I was using.

I presume that, if I buy a ticket and use Pay with Miles for almost all of it (such as a BE TATL that's on sale), I will get credited for mileage as if I had paid for the entire ticket with cash/credit card. It will not at all look like a quasi award ticket.
