Open-jaw only works if you have the awards you're looking for available in both directions (not too common in my experience). With one-way awards I can grab an award in one direction while it's there, and keep working on the other.



Especially helpful if you have a pot of miles/avios/whatever else in various different schemes to allow you to search different alliances
