I remember once booking in ET in a rush, where I wanted CE, and not being offered a reasonable upgrade fee at any stage. At T-72 I called the Silver line who initially said there should be an offer, only to come back and say they could only sell me a whole new ticket at a silly price.

When I got to the airport, there were no last minute upgrades uploaded to the system either, clearly to the bemusement of the agent.

On the plane, CE was mostly empty! So, despite me having tried on numerous occasions to push more money to BA, they ended up getting none and flying CE mostly empty (I think there were only 3 people in CE on that flight).
Do you think everyone sees the same availability online or a Gold member sees more reward seat availability. I just achieved Silver after buying my last ticket but may be a Gold member can help me check. Dallas > Lhr is notoriously difficult. I got availability from Houston but we have about 6 boxes which I don't want to pay for if I have to get an aMerican domestic flight to connect...
