3x is the magic trick with American Express. On certain purchases you get 3 times (3x) membership reward points. You adjust your spending habits and then with this deluge of points, you can then pay your airfare via americanexpress.com with cash and points. So when people post $350 C1-C2 with a 3X that means that they pay $350 with American Express and the rest via points they got for almost free.
