I seriously doubt that DL will refund any miles if one segment is in coach. It just doesn't work that way (speaking from experience with DL/AS flights with similar coach-only flight within Alaska).

Whenever you are told something like that, get the agent's name (and hopefully location) and see if they will document your reservation with such falsehoods (doubtful).
