No, you're right -- they were bringing up the rear. But it has been around for some time.

Has there been a purposeful alignment of the ps product to major city (LA/SF) transcon standard? Yes. Were the ps planes falling into disrepair and required a major hard-product upgrades? Yes. Is that happening? As we speak.
As someone who flew transcons monthly for the past several years, and has now started doing them every other week, I'm very familiar with every product that's out there. The original PS flights were really nothing more special, compared to what the competition offered, except for their marketing. Since the merger have some things improved and others gone down? Yup. Just like everything else.
Am I happy to see a capital investment made in the hard-product? Yup. Will I be happy to have a lie-flat seat in C? Yup. Will I be happy to have a true E+ instead of quasi-E+ for the rare occasions I can't get into the C cabin due to time of booking? Yup. Will I miss having a bowling alley in front of row 9? Yup. Will I miss the stupid dig-E players? Nope. Am I happy wifi and power ports are staying? Yup. Do I care, at all, about the food? Nope. Do I find JFK to be a royal PIA? Yup.
Do I like answering my own questions? Absolutely!
