I don't have a major problem with selling discount or even deep-discount First seats far in advance to the leisure crowd, subject to typical capacity limits for discount fare buckets. Where UA has crossed the line IMO is:
1) On many flights, I see P still open almost to the last seat on the plane, especially after T-24, even with long lists of people waiting for upgrades.
2) UA seems to ignore advance-purchase restrictions for buy-ups, allowing you to get those really cheap advance-purchase seats at the last minute and with no penalty.
IME #1 is happening on AA and DL. I've purchased P-fares on both within 24 hours of departure in the last couple of months.
