I find people often want to chat towards the end of a flight. Perhaps because at that point there's no chance of getting stuck talking for hours. I've shared a taxi into the city a couple of times as a result of chatting as the plane taxis to its gate.
I find this too, and am generally happier to engage at the end of the flight than at the beginning. Even so, I generally won't speak unless spoken to....
