If your coming in from Kabul on a charter, you can take advantage of the Visa on arrival in Dubai for Americans and spend a night or 2 here till the new config is scheduled.
The past two times I went home I flew a mix of E- and E+ and I honestly didn't have too bad a time of it so for my personal experience, I am sure that even the old C will be a nice experience for me (although I can understand for others why that may not be the case). I fly to Denver and UA gets me there the earliest in the day. I am actually spending a day in Dubai on my way home this time. Done Dubai before, but I like the day to decompress so I am more relaxed when I get home.

I bucked up for C on the ticket with cash. I originally was on LH and decided I would rather have old C than slant seats if it came to it. Changing from LH to UA resulted in a $1,300 certificate for me. Also, in my experience, I have always found the DXB-IAD UA crew to be very friendly and helpful, and that was in E (both - and +).

Yeah I have been watching the flight. This week there so far Monday's flight was cancelled and the one this morning was delayed 4 hours! Aye caramba!
