Could the safety guidelines possibly be updated for the modern era or is there a rational reason for this?..... I'm guessing it's to prevent distraction but it does seem a bit OTT.
This is one of the main reasons why I have not purchased a kindle. Almost all my flight are short haul, so with 15mins taxi, 10 min climb, 15min approach, and another taxi then my 1 - 1.5 flight would give me maybe 30-45 mins reading on a kindle with 45 mins being bored (can't read the kindle, can't listen to music).
So for the moment I am stiking with books. Flying is also the time when I read the most, so I enjoy this time.
The other reason is that you can't give kindle books as gifts. My wife has a kindle and for the past 2 years has not received a single book as a gift because of this. Amazon vouchers are just not the same.
