It's not the call that causes the interference. It's analogue devices that would do that. Modern mobile devices are digital. The thing that causes the interference is the pinging from your phone to the base station. That happens even if you are doing nothing. It does this particularly strongly when you first switch your phone on as it attempts to lock on to your home network. If you are roaming it will usually search for multiple.
