Gold v. Platinum for a frequent LAX-JFK traveler

Hi all,

I've hit Gold Medallion the last 2 years, and most of my travel is LAX to JFK. I tend to travel on the crowded/popular early morning flights. As a Gold, I occasionally get upgraded on this route but not very often.

I'm now at the often-discussed decision point of whether to go for the 75,000 MQMs by 12/31 to hit Platinum Medallion, or instead come in a little short of 75,000 and roll over a bunch of MQMs into next year as a nice cushion for the future.

Here's my question -- does anyone have a sense of how much more often I might get upgraded on the LAX to JFK route as a Platinum? If it's usually just the Diamonds who are getting upgraded on this route, I'd be inclined to stay at Gold Medallion level and roll over my extra MQMs. If Platinums often get upgraded on this route, then I'd be inclined to go for Platinum this year.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to FlyerTalk and very thankful for all the great info I've gotten here so far.
