When I first upgraded to Amb (did it online), I called them (the same day) and asked them to update my account to note my Ambassador status. They didn't give me any problems and I was able to benefit from my Amb status that evening. It still took a few weeks for my Welcome Packet to arrive, but at least it was updated in their system so hotels could see it.
