In other words, when the property has one type of suite (which appears to be an ordinary one bedroom suite, with the room description including lounge access), they can't say that they now only give suites for Suite Night Awards and no longer as Platinum upgrades?
Any Plat can get that suite. The only benefit to having a suite night award is I can guarantee it 5 days out if it's avail. But if no one uses suite nights, then the rooms are up for grabs by any Plat that checks in.

I can see the odd FDA being lazy, but in general I've found most properties assign rooms (including upgrades) the night before so many times, it's not even up to them. Other then that, I don't believe many properties "lie" about suite availability. I've gotten upgraded on 112 out of 112 nights this year, sometimes to Towers room, sometimes to standard suites and even often to suites that are not even part of the suite pool (WOW, PRESIDENTIAL, ETC). It depends on property, time of year AND most importantly, if you are a repeat or regular guest
