The page also used to say "Customers traveling with MileagePlus Premier members or dependents traveling with active U.S. military personnel are also exempt as long as they are traveling in the same reservation. This exemption will not apply to group reservations including 10 or more customers." (other thread here)

Now it no longer contains that text, and only mentions dependents on reservations with active military. I can't imagine they'd take away companion baggage completely, but that's a huge devaluation if they do. I can't find any mention of companion baggage fees anywhere on the website anymore.

The only flights I have right now with a companion on them are in first, so logging into that fee checker with her MP# shows 3 bags @ 70lbs. If someone else 1P or better has a non-status companion on a non-full-fare economy ticket, you can probably try logging in with their account and going to the "My flights" tab at http://www.united.com/CMS/en-US/trav...edbaggage.aspx
