Yes, as NewbieRunner points out, MUC is not a practical origination point from SW Germany. It is about 400km away from me, so by car is impractical and the train connections are marginal in the best cases.

Even with the improvements in the train lines promised by "Stuttgart 21" (or will that be "Stuttgart 22" by the time it is finished?), it is still over 4 hours travel time.

The train station at the airport in FRA is super convenient to the terminal and only 2 hours from Freiburg. ZRH is a similar time with a car service.

Freiburg is, as was earlier pointed out, quite beautiful, but a little bit remote when one is underway 30%-50% of the time.
