I think this is a very interesting point, and until you had mentioned it I didn't realise that this was how I felt as well. I'd be gutted to use the Avios to upgrade on a day flight and have a bad CW experience (in terms of dirt / dysfunctional seat, poor service, or other pax) when my expectation is that I am lucky to be flying WTP and not WT!
