I do this fairly regularly via SIN and then onto Singapore Airlines for the hop to KL. My luggage always gets checked through no problem and the SIN-KUL leg is so short that I don't feel I am missing out on anything as it is not OW. In fact the Singapore Airlines experience is usually very pleasant...
