I suggest you contact Amex immediately. It might not work for you, but it's worth a try. (We did have to fax them a copy of her social security card.)

I actually added my wife as an AU to my AMEX Gold Skymiles card about a year ago and she has a credit score of 690 using creditsesame and creditkarma.

She applied for the British Airways 50K Avios and the Chase Hilton card and was rejected because they said she doesn't have any lines of credit in her name, no credit history, despite having a credit score... which I found odd.
