31-7: BA flight 2764 LGW-AMS diverted midflight back to LGW due MX

HAd an interesting experience flying LGW-AMS on BA2764 yesterday. It was diverted midflight back to LGW due MX. No explanation given in flight, just that it was a "minor" technical problem however still mayor enough to fly back to Gatwick.

After landing in Gatwick the Captain came out and explained there was a problem with the "Transformer rectifying unit" whatever that may be. Does anyone know if this is major MX issue?

She explained BA had two options, or to repair the Aircraft which would take a while, or to use another Aircraft. They opted for the latter and promised a replacement Aircraft within 45 minutes. I was very impressed with the way the captain handled this issue, coming out of the Flightdeck and walking though the cabin asking each pax individually if they had any issue or questions.

After about 45 minutes the other aircraft was ready for boarding and they had busses ferry us to the new plane, where the same crew was waiting on us. (How did they get there so quickly?) After some checks we went on our way back to Amsterdam, arriving 2,5 hours late. All in all I was quite impressed with the way BA handled this.

But as a good FTer, not to familiar with BA, will they provide any compensation or goodwill?
