Getting Married - need to book ticket for after name change
So I'm getting married in August and I'm trying to plan a trip to SLC in December. My fiance should have her name changed by the time we go to SLC.
My question is how should I go about booking her ticket with her new name. She currently has a skymiles account, but it's under her current last name.
Option 1:
Would it make sense to make a new skymiles account with her new name, book the ticket with her new and the new account? If I do that, we could just change her old acount to her new name later and then merge it with the new account.
Option 2:
I talked to a delta rep and they said I could just book the ticket without an SM number and new name. Then after her old account has the name changed I could just credit the miles to the account. I wasn't too sure about this since I would prefer to have a SM number attached to the itinerary so I can track it.
Are there other options I'm missing? Or which of these options would be easiest?
