The way payments are set up with card issuers/issuing banks/receiving banks etc is horribly time consuming when it needs to go in reverse (payments are not actually real time either, but the card user doesnt see this). It will need to be authorised/processed by all of the above once BA's own accountants approve it. It's not simply a case of BA log on to an online banking system and BACS you the money back across.
