I have three closely spaced children and our double, even though it was tandem, never got near an airport. I only used a single. I also used big backpacks, never wheely bags and a good quality (meaning to age 3) baby carrier. I admit that none were true "stroller babies" and preferred walking. One rode, two walked or one walked while one rode and one was worn, etc. whatever worked according to their age, needs and desires at the moment.
Another option if you need car seats at your destination- check the stroller(s) and use the car seat(s) as de facto strollers in the airport. Especially recommended for walking children. Never check a car seat as luggage and use onboard whenever possible.
Since you have the luxury of traveling with the other parent, you have more options.
