Is this why they call it Delta.dumb?

I posted another thread about trying to change an award flight. I have a flight RDU-CDG booked in coach, it was changed to an illegal (too-tight connection), and I now want to change it to business. I paid 30K one-way and of course want to get it for 50K.

I've been checking the website regularly for desirable routings, and found one tonight, absolutely perfect. By the time I called DL however, they told me it wasn't available anymore. They offered me a flght with (a) worse times, (b) Y on the domestic portion, and crucially (c) they couldn't tell me how many miles! (For 325K miles of course I can get where I want to go!)

Apparently I can't do the change on the website, since the change fee should be waived. Further, I can't even rely on the website because by the time I call DL, the flight may be gone.

The moral seems to be that if I'm really insistent on getting the best routing, all I can do is call DL as frequently as I have time to. But even then - it seems totally random because even if I call and get through, they might not know how many miles and have to transfer me. So I might as well just call and say "Give me the reissue desk."

Yes, I know I shouldn't be this obsessed with getting everything 100% perfect. I'm already in J on the return, which is the leg that counts, because I'm going over alone but coming back with Mrs. Redtop.

But do you DL frequenters know - is there a way I can actually use the website and NOT have to call constantly?
