ATL-MIA-JFK-BRU-LHR-ORD-ATL is just a tad over 10K miles.
Since status seems important to you why not check into a PLT challenge?
The right fare will get you 10K POINTS and PLT status for 2012-FEB 2014 and then a soft landing to Gold for 2014.
