I'm helping my dad plan a trip in late August using points. He has a Chase Rewards card but has rarely used it.

In an effort to get him some additional points I'm encouraging him to use it more, but am not sure how realistic it is to get these points in time for his trip.

Do the points post monthly based on his cc statement date, or based on when the cc payment is received, or some other factor? And how long is the lag between what triggers the posting and when the points actually show up?
