Agreed. I have never been to Tahiti, but it seems that it would get old quickly (unless you're affluent enough to travel all the time).
I would never retire anywhere cold, and Hawaii is probably a good balance of amenities, proximity, and comfort. Spain would be my second choice among these, though it's pretty far down on my list of warm European destinations.
