My question is, would it count as 1.5 pts or 0.5 pts towards the challenge?
TPA > DFW > OGG Y fare = 6937 pts?
KOA > LAX > DFW > TPA N fares = 2328 pts? (any possibility of getting gold status bonus with this trip?)
By my math, this would total about 9265 pts? Does that sound right?
My other question is how worthwhile would it be to try for the challenge? I don't fly that frequently, and the next time I would likely fly AA would be on an awards trip internationally. I'm not sure I'd have another flight within the 3 months span to make it to platinum (which is really in reach, I know). Not sure she would understand me taking a trip solely to make status. So if it would only take me to gold status, is it worth the challenge? Or should I really try to get platinum status?
Thanks for any input you may have.
Do you fly much domestically (say for work) that having status would be useful to you in the future? If you're planning on a coach international award, the status would offer you better seats and lounge access. Otherwise, if you're not going to make use of it, it might not be worth bothering with the challenge at all.
