Also we find many Spaniards to be provincial in attitudes and certainly not what one would expect of a 1st world country; Racism as well--sat with university colleagues watching USA-Spain playing basketball two nights ago and was shocked at what they were openly calling the Americans "monos" (monkeys) "negros de mierda" (sh*t n*ggers) etc.

And no, the health system is not good, it has been hit or miss with us when we were using the public hospitals. I highly recommend you purchase a private plan through MAPFRE or whatnot for your coverage if you choose Spain.
