A good move that will have a positive impact, at minimal cost. A partial correction for beginning to charge for checked luggage, and creating the overhead bin hell current situation.

You also encourage better behavior from folks who give up too easily on getting their bags to fit in handle/wheels first, and just shove it in sideways, IMO.

Large bins will improve the overall flying experience given the current conditions.

Hmm . . . maybe some number crunchers at the airline did an analysis and figured out that this is actually a good investment, which speeds up boarding time and avoids some take off delays. Maybe, just maybe.
