I'll hazard a guess that you didn't bother to read the original article on Brocious' website. He didn't just send the site code back, he sent the 'open' opcode including the proper site code. The point of the article is that you can pretty much replicate the handheld device you mentioned using a simple microprocessor and code copy-paste capabilities.

On another note, if anyone would want to create one of these himself it can be done for much less than 50$..
