please... you are making a big deal out of a small thing.
you want double points for the raise... LOL
I actually don't want double the points... just want the same point structure for last minute upgrades. This perk is the only one that really sticks out compared to the competitors...
they raised the price from 100 points for long haul to 150 .
i am sure that as a Platinum that earned 5000 points per year, this will show stopper.
The point is not whether I did 5,000 or 3,000 points. The point is that El Al unilaterally decided to increase the points price by 50-100%. This is in addition to the increase of the points price for bonus tickets. It doesn't make a difference how many points you have if their value is constantly depreciating...
and last minute upgrades are , as the name states... at the last minute. so why do you cry about paying MSY and that it's not confirmed ?
and please... i bet you never paid Y. so SM is not full fare.
and if you fly for a short period (without weekend) you in some occasions must purchase M/S anyways.
I love the way you assume that I never pay for the highest class :-) Actually most tickets I book around 72 hours in advance. Please find me S,M class so I can book them... My point is that what I pay in S,Y,M class in El Al sometimes come out cheaper with BA or United for example. The major perk with El Al is the last-minute upgrade policy...
let me just demonstrate - a flight without a weekend in biz to HKG is more than 5K$. M/S class is something like 2300$-2600$ and you have the option to get a 5K$ seat/service for the new price of 150 points per sector.
I really don't know where you are getting your figures from... Just because El Al charges $5,000 for business class doesnt mean its worth $5,000... You have to compare pricing with other airlines. I buy fully flexible class tickets and calculate that, with the last minute upgrade, it comes out to a bit cheaper than the competitors...
i am sure that you didnt get to Platinum by flight H/V classes To Europe.
so, yes, it's annoying. but not a show stopper in my book.
and btw, as platinum you get over gold:
1. if there are First seats with Biz service, you can pre-assign them
2. you get priority in Last minute upgrades
and more perks.
wanna switch ?
